Two-hundred area residents attended last week’s “Play to Build” at the Silverball Museum – a benefit supporting Coastal Habitat for Humanity’s latest construction project of four homes in the Springwood Avenue area of Asbury Park. Thanks to the generosity of each guest, more than $8,000 was raised at the event.
“The outpouring of support from this community was extraordinary,” said Maureen Mulligan, executive director of Coastal Habitat. “All the funds raised will go directly to effecting change in our city. Everyone who attended had fun and positively impacted the lives of the families that will live in that neighborhood. The three hours of Play to Build will live on for decades. What could be more wonderful?”
More than $3,000 in prizes were given away at the event, including a five day / four night vacation in Cancun.
“I wish there was a way for me to thank every one of the two-hundred attendees,” said Richard Virgilio, the event’s chairperson. “It was humbling to see the generosity and outpouring of support from everyone. It made me love this community more than I ever have. Man, as well as a giving community, it also loves its food and drink! And thats another reason I love it so much… ha!”
The organization is accepting applications for this year’s “Brush With Kindness’ program which assists homeowners with the exterior maintenance of their properties.
“Now, more than ever, we are focused on impacting neighborhoods and communities, along with providing affordable, safe and energy efficient homes,” said Mulligan.
