Angela Raiola, better known as “Big Ang,” is the breakout star of VH1′s latest hit reality show “Mob Wives.” She’s the niece of the late Salvatore “Sally Dogs” Lombardi of the notorious Genovese crime family. The born-and-bred Brooklynite is a single mom of two, and the owner of a bar on Staten Island.
Michael Cook spoke with the big personality…
'Big Ang' has people talking on Season 2 of "Mob Wives"
Michael: How does it feel to be the newest “Mob Wives” star? Are you used to seeing yourself on television yet?
Big Ang: I’m telling you, it’s crazy. It’s blown up tremendously, I’m very impressed! I was walking through the mall the other day and I was thrown off by people chasing me all over!
Michael: Tell me about your background. Have you always been a Staten Island resident?
Big Ang: No, I actually lived in Brooklyn. I came to Staten Island about eight years ago. I have two amazing kids, and a grandson, who’s three. It’s a great age, he’s my life!
Michael: What do you think of the show so far?
Big Ang: I don’t get involved and I really try to take a step back from it all. It’s not my business, and I really don’t know their personal business with all of the drama. I have nothing to do with it at all. We aren’t teenagers, we’re grown women. I want everyone to get along so we can all go out and enjoy each other’s company.
Michael: I don’t know if you realize it, but you are an emerging gay icon! All of the boys are in love with you!
Big Ang: Oh I know. I have a gay night at my bar (Ang’ owns The Drunken Monkey on Staten Island), and I love the gay guys. I love Asbury Park, and I’ve been there quite a few times. I went to Paradise a bunch of times, and I love it there. I go to Watermark, and in the summer I’m in Asbury Park and Long Branch almost every weekend!
Michael: Now naturally, alliances are big on the show if you had to choose any of the “Wives” to stand next to you in a fight, who would you choose?
Big Ang: Oh without a doubt, Drita (D’Avanzo). I mean, would you mess with her?
Michael: If you were asked to join “Mob Wives” as a full time cast member if there is a 3rd season?
Big Ang: I definitely would! I’m having a blast doing it and would love it to continue.
Michael: So far the fans are loving you on the show, especially on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. What’s next for Big Ang?
Big Ang: Right now, I’m really enjoying being an addition to “Mob Wives”. I want to keep having fun and seeing what’s next!
