I spoke with a few locals about what they “heart” most about our area and then asked Josh Rademacher, beverage manager at Langosta Lounge to reveal his secret recipe for one of the restaurant’s most popular Valentine’s Day cocktails…and he did.
Mary Pat Angelini, Assemblywoman:
The energy Asbury Park exudes as well as the welcoming spirit and attitude of the local merchants are what I love about the city. Of course, there is also the great haircut that our Schnauzer, Dottie gets at her favorite salon – The Dawg Joint.
What I love about Asbury Park is the extremely diverse community that is united by our fierce pride in our quirky little city. I love this city’s crazy cast of characters.

Love in the Sand. My true love and mistress in Asbury Park is our beach. The number of romantic stories about the Asbury Park beach outnumbers the grains of sand that makes our beach so special. I begin each day at the Fifth Avenue beach. It is a place of love, comfort and peace. Even on a very gray day, it is a beautiful grey.

Asbury history speaks for itself. All its peaks and valleys make for some interesting ghosts. Ultimately, nowhere in NJ can you find a cornucopia of oddities and contrasts as resplendent. And though a renaissance of sorts is underway, the canvas is still largely blank, which makes for plenty of delicious dinner table talk.

Selling hundreds each week, the Fashionista is one of Langosta Lounge’s most popular (and pink) cocktails. Josh and Marilyn Schlossbach’s Valentine’s Day gift to you, is the secret recipe:
- 2 oz Absolut Ruby Red Vodka
- ¾ oz Ruby Red Grapefruit Juice
- ½ oz Cranberry Juice
- ½ oz Triple Sec
- ¼ oz Simple Syrup
- ¼ oz Fresh Lime Juice
Shake vigorously and strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a wedge of pink grapefruit.
Prefer something a bit more bubbly on a recession-conscious budget? Josh also spoke about a great sparkling wine.
“As for a little bubbly this Valentine’s Day, Domain Ste. Michelle from Washington State, at about $13 offers an incredible value for the price,” said Josh. “The Brut is the most popular, landing right in the middle of the sweet to dry scale. If Goldilocks was looking for a sparkling wine to share with her baby bear this holiday, the Brut would be just right.”
He suggests paring the sparking wine with salty foods and shellfish on the most amorous day of the year.
“Oysters anyone?” said Josh, grinning with red bubble hearts popping over his head.
