Press release from Madison Marquette:

While some shoppers are busting down doors on “Black Friday,” revelers at the Asbury Park Boardwalk will be showcasing their wacky and tacky gifts from holidays-gone-by at the first annual “Asbury Park White Elephant Gift Exchange.” The event will raise funds and collect food for the Foodbank of Ocean and Monmouth Counties.

“We will document participation and believe it will be the world’s largest white elephant gift exchange ever,” said Pasqualina Delucia, Marketing and Events Director of Madison Marquette, the operator of the Asbury Park Boardwalk and organizer of the event. “Regrettably, the Guinness World Records organization is refusing to recognize this iconic gift exchange as a record-setting category.”

The Gift Exchange will begin at 1pm on Friday, November 26 in the Grand Arcade. Here’s how it will work:

–Participants drop off an unwrapped “white elephant” gift and a non perishable food item (or $1) anytime from 1-4pm in the Grand Arcade. Participants will be given a ticket confirming their gift/donation drop-off. The gifts will then be placed inside of a gift bag and put under the holiday tree.

–Beginning at 4pm, participants can redeem their tickets for white elephant gift bags.

–By donating another non perishable food item (or $1), participants can exchange their gift for another one. This exchange can be repeated multiple times.

“Every dollar donated and every non perishable food item collected will go to the Foodbank for distribution to families in need,” said Delucia.

Each gift given will be photographed and boardwalk prizes will be given to the 10 gifts judged to be “the best white elephant gifts.”
