It is possible to help build a house without lifting a hammer.

Coastal Habitat for Humanity is expanding its mission and has organized an event to celebrate both the new initiative and the progress made in its Springwood Avenue construction project.

The organization is one of 163 affiliates nationwide selected to participate in the first phase of Habitat for Humanity International’s Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative – a new program focusing on the rehabilitation of vacant and foreclosed properties, home repairs and weatherization to make homes more energy efficient.

“This initiative will enable us to help a greater number of local families each year and positively impact entire neighborhoods,” said Maureen Mulligan, Coastal Habitat’s executive director.  “We are expanding our efforts while continuing to build four homes in the Springwood Avenue area of Asbury Park.  I am excited to tell you that the first home in Asbury Park will be completely shortly.”

Since 1994, Coastal Habitat has built 12 new homes in Monmouth County and 13 in third-world countries, in addition to improving living conditions in 25 homes in the immediate area with its Brush With Kindness program.

And you can help Coastal Habitat continue its mission by purchasing a ticket to its first fundraising event in years.

“’Play to Build’ at the Silverball vintage pinball museum promises to be a fun, community spirit-filled evening of pinball, boardwalk food, treats and cocktails,” said Mulligan.  “And thanks to the generosity of a few local families and a number of great businesses, we have fantastic prizes up for grabs.”

Every ticket purchased helps build homes and improve our community and gives the attendee the opportunity to win cool stuff, including a great five-day four-night vacation at the Laguna Suites Golf and Spa in Cancun, donated by Cathy Ruggiero of Rovia & World Ventures – $3000 worth of prizes in total.

I think that is a pretty spectacular win-win.
