“CALL AHEAD FOR QUICK PARKING REFUND”: CITY’S PARKING OPERATIONS MANAGER

City parking officials are recommending that people seeking parking refunds phone ahead to ensure quick and seamless service after a TheBPlot report two weeks ago revealed the difficulties locals were experiencing.

Pay stations issue refund receipts prior to a visitor confirming the transaction, which may be due to a technical malfunction or simply changing one’s mind. Refunds are not given for time not used. Pay stations also do not issue change.

 

“Always call and leave a message. We will call you back as fast as we can,” said Officer Eugene Dello, the city’s parking operations manager. “We will have everything ready for you so there is no waiting. The process takes just a few minutes.”

Residents and visitors to the city seeking refunds must bring their refund receipt and driver’s licence when they come to the Department of Public Works building at 9 Main Street. Pay station refunds are issued on smartcards and can be used for parking as well as to purchase beach badges. The rechargeable cards never expire and should be treated like cash – if they are lost or stolen the cards cannot be reissued.

Plans are underway to edit the instructions on refund tickets which currently detail parking refunds can be made weekdays during standard office hours.

“Refunds are only issued by trained special police officers, so it’s important that someone will be in the office when someone comes,” said Officer Dello. “Also, if you are local and can’t get to our office, we may be able to come to you and pick up the paperwork. Our goal is to make this as easy as possible for everyone.”
