CORY BOOKER SHINES FOR MONMOUTH CTY. DEMS. + 2 FUN THINGS YOU DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT OUR SENATOR
Friday, Rock Star Senator Cory Booker took time out of his uber-busy schedule to give a shout-out to freeholder candidates
Larry Luttrell and Joe Grillo as well as the Monmouth County Democratic Party at a private home fundraiser in Wall.
I wish you were there to hear the inspirational speech Senator Booker gave about his life and the future of our country.
“We are here because we believe democracy is a participatory endeavor,” said Senator Booker. “I am intoxicatingly in love with this country… I am involved in an irrational conspiracy of love for this country…
“These two freeholder candidates give our young people the chance to aspire. This election will say a lot about where we are headed as a county, state and country… More than ever we are at a crossroads… Give up your time with the Real Housewives and volunteer and then get out and vote (on November 4).”
Because of the Senator’s speech, Jennifer Zarcone, West Allenhurst resident says she felt reinvigorated about the state of politics and the impact one person can make.
“Sometimes it feels like we are fighting a losing battle and nothing we do as citizens will matter (in politics),” said Zarcone. “The Senator spoke a lot about seeing possibilities instead of problems – metaphorically calling Joe and Larry, Joshua and Caleb – and sharing stories of his own life. I was inspired by Booker and plan to deepen my involvement and continue to try to be a voice for the causes that are important to the economic, environmental and emotional well-being of our area.”
The Senator’s representative called Zarcone the following day to reassure her he is “strongly opposed to seismic blasting” off the New Jersey coastline and working hard to end it.
Following his speech, Senator Booker patiently joked with and cast his magic spell on guests (lordy people, he is crazy charming!). Friends and I asked him about his life as a child during the summer months.
“Absolutely, I love the Jersey Shore,” he said. “My family and I would drive down to Long Branch to visit my aunt. Great times. Getting ice cream on the boardwalk was my favorite… and still is.”
Democrats have not held a seat on the county’s freeholder board in three years. Only once in the past 29 years has the party held the majority on the board.
