EXTREME SPORTS WATCHING AT ALLENHURST BEACH: THE STORY BEHIND THE PHOTO
Now this is shore living.
A group of Allenhurst friends did not let Sunday’s New York Giants game keep them from enjoying one of the best beach days of the year. Michael McLaughlin, off-duty lifeguard, set up his 32” television and local-range antenna on the sand to be sure everyone could enjoy both the beach and the big game. [more below]
“This is amazing,” said Lou Centineo of Asbury Park. “They have to combine the beach and football every weekend – and I am a Dolphins fan. These are the type of spontaneous, cool community things that make us who we are here.”
Initially, about 10 people positioned their beach chairs to face the television and ocean. An hour later, approximately 40 fans of all ages were enjoying the extreme sports watching. Ultimately, the Giants lost to the Arizona Cardinals.
“Even though the Giants played pretty badly, the best part was watching it on the beach,” said Hayden Frey, Giant’s fan and high school student from Point Pleasant. “My prediction is that the Giants will finish last in their division this year because Eli Manning cannot keep up with the new offense.”
Jack Lehmann, Allenhurst resident concluded, “Allenhurst is a Giants beach. The only thing that was going to stop us from watching the game was the tide.”
