LOCAL FAMILY MAKES INCREDIBLE DONATION TO COASTAL HABITAT

This family has lots to give.

Speaking with The Coaster exclusively, Elizabeth Gorcey shared her family’s plans to donate three plots of vacant land, located in the southwest side of Asbury Park to Coastal Habitat for Humanity.

“My family has had this land for years and we wanted to do something good with it,” said Gorcey.  “Knowing that the land, the homes built on the land, will help to change a family’s future means so much to my family and I.  My eyes are welling up thinking of the opportunity for change we can be a part of.”

Coastal Habitat plans to build simple, energy efficient and affordable single family homes on each of the three lots, located on Mattison Avenue, Prospect Avenue and Bangs Avenue.  A typical Coastal Habitat home is 1200 square feet, three bedrooms with one full and one half bathrooms.

“Finding buildable land in Southern Monmouth County is one of the biggest challenges we face as an organization,” said Maureen Mulligan, executive director of Coastal Habitat.  “The Gorcey family’s donation will transform the lives of three families looking for hope and a hand up.  Change in any neighborhood begins with one house.  We are very, very grateful.”

The Gorcey’s gift will facilitate the construction of Coastal Habitat’s 16th, 17th and 18th single-family homes since its founding in 1994.  Coastal Habitat sells the homes it constructs at below market value with a zero-interest mortgage to qualified and vetted Monmouth County families.  In addition to the purchase price, the family agrees to donate a set number of “sweat equity” hours.

“We researched charities and thought what Coastal Habitat was doing in the area was fabulous,” said Gorcey.  “My family is happy to help.”
