“When they retire, they get 1/55th of their salary per year of service,” said our benefits expert.  “Example, if someone works 20 years, their annual pension will total approximately 20.5 percent of the average of their three final year’s salary.  Public employees are required to pay more than four percent of their salary into the state pension system and their employer is required to do the same.”

Salaries and number of locations are based on information reported to the state pension system as of the end of 2014.
